A Pub Full of History & Heart
Located opposite the beautiful village church, St Peter's, The Green Dragon has been at the heart of the community for generations. With its cosy interior, exposed wooden beams, stone & wooden floors, & crackling fireplace, it’s the perfect spot for hearty food, a relaxing drink, & great company. Landlords Alan Jones & Georgie Varney took over the pub in 2018 & have lovingly restored it, preserving its heritage while bringing new energy to the space. With Alan’s 25+ years in the local pub scene & Georgie’s background in hospitality & international event planning, they’ve created a truly special place to eat, drink, and unwind.

Our Food & Drink
At The Green Dragon, we serve up homemade pub classics & stonebaked pizzas as well as an ever-changing menu using fresh, local ingredients. Whether you’re after a Sunday roast, a casual midweek supper, or a slice of pizza with a pint, there’s something for everyone.  We cater to all appetites, from hearty meat dishes to satisfying vegetarian & vegan options. Keep an eye out for our weekly specials, seasonal dishes, & occasional guest chef pop-ups, all cooked fresh in our kitchen.  Pair your meal with our excellent selection of real ales, local ciders, fine wines, & of course, a top-shelf gin collection to rival anywhere in South Devon. We also stock a range of low-alcohol & alcohol-free options so everyone can enjoy their visit.  And don't miss Putty’s Breakfast, served every Friday & Saturday morning from 10am to 12pm, a local favourite that's fast becoming a must-try.

Our Outside Space
Our spacious rear beer garden is a must-visit during warmer months. Lovingly renovated during lockdown, it's a leafy, sun-drenched haven perfect for lazy afternoons & summer evenings. On the weekends (weather & staff permitting), our Tiki Bar opens up for cold pints, chilled wine, & plenty of good vibes.  We also have a very sunny terrace at the front of the pub, where you can sit & soak up the village atmosphere. The tables outside the main front door are real suntraps, ideal for enjoying a crisp pint or a fresh coffee while watching the world go by.

Dog & Family Friendly
We love dogs just as much as you do! The Green Dragon is a dog-friendly pub through & through, & you’ll often find our very own Clifford the pub dog wagging his tail, ready to greet regulars & newcomers alike. Dogs are welcome throughout the pub & garden, with fresh water bowls & treats always available, & plenty of shady spots for your four-legged friends to relax. Our spacious beer garden is perfect for post-walk pints, & muddy paws are never a problem, we’re right on the South West Coast Path, after all!
We just ask that they are kept on leads at all times please.
Kids are welcome too, with family-friendly menus, high chairs, & games to keep little ones entertained. Whether you're visiting for a hearty meal or a relaxing drink, the whole family, two-legged & four, are always welcome!

A Local Favourite With Deep Roots
The Green Dragon is more than just a pub. It’s a family business in every way. Alan’s son Elliot & two of Georgie’s children, Poppy & Wills, all work behind the bar or in the kitchen, at various times, keeping the community spirit alive. Georgie has a particularly personal connection to the pub, her grandma gave Georgie her very first scrumpy, when she was a teenager, right inside The Green Dragon! Meanwhile, Alan has been close friends with the previous landlords, Peter and Alix Crowther, for many years. That friendship was a big part of what inspired Alan & Georgie to take on the tenancy when it became available.  To this day, Peter, now in his 80s, can still be found behind the bar during the day on Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays, continuing the legacy of warm hospitality & strong community ties that defines The Green Dragon.
